OUR STORY

A Clay Story, founded by Anumita Jain, is a brand aspiring to tell the tale of lovingly handcrafted pottery for everyday use. Here, we believe that in a world of mass-produced perfections, it’s the little flaws and imperfections on handcrafted pieces that make them unique and carry a part of the artist’s soul.

Anumita’s creative journey started young. Every summer as a kid, she dabbled in various arts & crafts, from calligraphy to glass painting to origami. Finding her calling in creating, painting, and designing, she enrolled at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi to study product design. Though she explored various materials during her course, ceramics gripped her attention and heart. It was really no surprise then that as soon as she could, she began training at Delhi Blue Pottery in 2015 and went on to hone her finer skills under the famed Mansimran Singh at Andretta Pottery.

She balanced this gig as a budding potter for 5 years as the head designer for export house designing metal furniture and decor. Delving deep into the business dealings and manufacturing for some of the biggest retailers across US, UK and Europe, Anumita gained invaluable experience that has transformed both her functional ceramics and personality. At last, in 2019, Anumita finally quit her job as a designer, working only as a project consultant, to devote her entire time to her first love: pottery and can now be found hunched over the wheel, immersed in the rhythms of throwing and pulling.

Her work has been featured in reputed magazines like Vogue, Elle India, Design Pool and she was also awarded the “Solopreneur” award by SheThePeople in 2020.

Anumita often finds beauty in the mundane. With nature as her muse, her creations are defined by their earthy and understated palettes, organic shapes, and rustic textures. The simple forms of her products also celebrate practicality and timeless minimalism and with every piece she creates, she seeks to bring a little more joy into the homes of others.

When she’s not covered in clay, Anumita can be found bugging her studio dogs, painting landscapes, and belting out cringe-worthy Bollywood music much to the dismay of her family.
