Frequently Asked Questions
How is each piece made?
Each piece is uniquely handcrafted by the potter and owner of A Clay Story- Anumita in her personal studio in Delhi. Made using stoneware clay, the pieces are fired twice at high temperatures reaching upto 1250° C.
Are the pieces food-safe and microwavable?
Yes! The glazes used are lead-free, food safe to ensure the best quality and safety for your use. They are also oven-safe, microwavable, and dishwasher-friendly for your convenience!
How and when can I purchase your pieces?
The webstore is updated every 8-10 weeks with a new batch of products for you to purchase! The best way to not miss these shop updates is to become a Studio Insider here and sign up for the newsletter! Studio Insiders get an exclusive preview to the collections and a 2-hour early access for the widest range of selections.
Do you customise?
As of now, customization is only available for dinner sets or bulk orders. You can connect for the same here. Shapes and sizes can be customised but since glaze development takes a few months, customizing colours is not an option presently. Please remember while placing an order that I do not replicate or copy the works or styles of other artists for my clients.
Can I place bulk orders for my cafe/restaurant or for gifting for events?
Yes! Please write to us at orders.aclaystory@gmail.com for placing your bulk orders. The timelines and prices will vary based on the quantity and collections chosen for your order. Any queries regarding the same can also be addressed through email.
MADE-TO-ORDER
How do I place an order for a custom dinner set?
You can place your order here or get in touch with me at orders.aclaystory@gmail.com for further details. Sets are made keeping your and your family's requirement and products can be made as per your need. I would be more than happy to discuss your requirements to make you your very own dream set! However, glaze customisation is not available at the moment.
What is the lead time for a custom set?
Depending on the quantity and product requirement discussed, I provide a tentative timeline to my clients. Typically, a dinner set takes 6-8 weeks to be ready. However, this timeline can vary depending on the additional commitments undertaken by A Clay Story.
How are payments for custom orders made?
Once the dinner set is finalized and scheduled following our discussions, I accept a 30% advance booking fee before I start working on the order. At this point, if you wish to, you can revise the order and the prices will be revised accordingly. Once the work on your order begins and should you choose to cancel the order, the advance 30% cannot be refunded.
Can I cancel my orders?
You may cancel your orders before the work has been started. However, once I start working on your order, I will send you a notification. If you choose to cancel your order after that, the advance fee cannot be refunded as the materials and labour hours have been utilized.
Orders placed through Shop-Updates on the website are final and cannot be cancelled or refunded.
STUDIO VISITS AND WORKSHOPS
Can we visit your studio?
The studio is open for meetings and visits on an appointment basis only. Kindly contact us at aclaystory@gmail.com or through instagram to schedule your appointment. Please know that it is a working studio and it might not always be possible to accommodate your requests.
Do you teach? Can we schedule personal lessons with you?
Unfortunately, I do not take personal classes. A Clay Story is mainly a production studio handled by the owner single-handedly which makes it difficult to accommodate classes. However, in the rare occasion if there are any workshop plans, they are announced on instagram and emails.
Can we intern with A Clay Story?
Absolutely! Please drop an email with your portfolios and cover letters at aclaystory@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you when there’s a vacancy. As an intern, you will be involved in all the physical labour customary to pottery. Please ensure your health permits you to work in these conditions. While this internship doesn’t offer any stipend, we do give a personalised letter of recommendation and allow you to develop your own ceramic products. You also get hands-on experience working at a full-fledged production unit.
